04 Jul Don’t Make These First Impression MISTAKES!
Everyone wants to make a powerful first impression in business.
You only have one chance to make a positive impact but it can be ruined in seconds by making one of these six classic mistakes.
Don’t let this be you!
Using casual language such as “yo”, “hey” or “no worries” just to name a few. Choose what you say carefully. You don’t need to use complicated words to make yourself sound important, just remember to be more formal than informal in your speech.
Inappropriate touching such as a nudge or pat on the arm which can be seen as an invasion of someone’s personal space or just way too friendly and unprofessional.
Giggling. We can all do it when we’re nervous and may not even be aware of it. However, giggling can make you sound childish. Not a great way to make a good first impression.
Hiding your hands. Keep your hands visible; hands in pockets may give the impression that you’re holding something back.
Sniffing and Coughing. Unfortunately during Winter we may have a cold and sniffing and coughing are unavoidable. However, rather than sniff, discreetly blow your nose into a tissue or handkerchief, and always cover your mouth when you cough. Needless to say, don’t offer a handshake after either of these actions.
Chewing gum. Never a good look, let alone in a business setting. Enough said!
